US Issues New Guidance for Ships in Strait of Hormuz

Washington (Monitoring Desk): The United States has issued new guidance for US-flagged vessels transiting the Strait of Hormuz, advising them to remain as far as possible from Iranian territorial waters. The advisory was released on Monday by the US Maritime Administration.

Officials stated that the guidance instructs ship captains not to allow Iranian forces on board. However, if Iranian personnel do come aboard, the crew should not resist, as non-resistance will not be considered consent.

The advisory also recommends that US-flagged commercial vessels maintain maximum distance from Iranian territorial waters while transiting the strait, provided it does not compromise navigational safety. Ships traveling eastward are advised to pass near Oman’s territorial waters for added security.
