Europe in Crisis, Macron Warns of Economic and Security Risks

Azerbaijan (Turkiya News): French President Emmanuel Macron has warned that Europe is facing severe geopolitical and economic challenges. In an interview with Le Monde and other European media, he stated that Europe is undergoing an extraordinary trial in a world marked by growing disorder and uncertainty.

Macron said, “Europe today faces a major challenge. The United States, on which we have always relied for our security, is now raising doubts, while Russia no longer provides cheap energy as before. Meanwhile, China is emerging as a strong competitor in key export markets for Europe.”

He noted that China’s trade balance with the global market has reached $1 trillion, with one-third directed to the US and another third to Europe, while Washington has imposed tariffs on European products.

Macron highlighted that Europe faces three major strategic fronts: security and defense, green transition technologies, and the development of artificial intelligence and quantum technologies. He emphasized, “In all these areas, we are under-investing compared to China and the US. If the European Union does not act in the next three to five years, these sectors will fall behind. Investment must be coordinated through joint European efforts to safeguard the integrity of the internal market, not left to individual national actions.”
