Baku (Turkiye Khabar): Ilham Aliyev held a meeting in Baku with Cardinal George Jacob Koovakad, head of the Vatican’s interfaith dialogue institution.
During the meeting, both sides expressed satisfaction over the positive development of relations between Azerbaijan and the Vatican City, and considered mutual visits at various levels important for strengthening bilateral ties.
The Vatican representative thanked President Aliyev for the meeting and conveyed messages from Pope Leo XIV and Vatican Secretary of State Cardinal Pietro Parolin.
In response, President Aliyev extended his best wishes for the Vatican leadership and requested that his greetings be conveyed to the Pope.
The meeting also highlighted that people of different religions and ethnicities have long lived in an environment of peace, tolerance, and mutual respect in Azerbaijan, reflecting the country’s multicultural policy.
Further discussions covered the activities of the Catholic Church in Azerbaijan, religious harmony, and cultural cooperation projects.
Both sides also reviewed future opportunities for cooperation and matters of mutual interest. The President also presented an invitation letter to the Vatican leadership to visit Azerbaijan.
