Return of Afghan Refugees in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Situation Reviewed in Meeting Chaired by Governor

Peshawar (Turkiye News) An important meeting was held under the chairmanship of Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Faisal Karim Kundi to review the current situation of Afghan refugees in the province.

Commissioner Afghan Refugees Shakil Safi gave a detailed briefing during the meeting, while Chairman Red Crescent merged districts Imran Wazir and officials from NADRA also attended.

The briefing stated that more than 42 camps had been established for Afghan refugees in different districts of the province, out of which 10 camps have been vacated following the return of refugees.

The meeting was informed that during the phased repatriation process from 2023 to 2025, around 2 million illegally residing Afghan refugees have returned to their homeland.

According to NADRA officials, biometric and data entry facilities are being provided at Landi Kotal and Torkham border to facilitate the crossing process after verification of documents.

It was further informed that around 3,000 refugees are returning daily from the Torkham border; however, due to security reasons, occasional border closures create difficulties.

The meeting was also told that bank accounts and mobile SIMs of illegally residing refugees have been blocked, while the Red Crescent merged districts is providing health and relief facilities at the Torkham border.

The Governor directed NADRA officials to further speed up the biometric and data registration process in different camps to facilitate the repatriation process.

He said that better arrangements and improved facilities would enhance the repatriation process and reduce difficulties faced during border crossing.
