Former Iraqi General Saadoun al-Qaisi Executed

Iraq (Monitoring Desk): The Iraqi government has executed former Major General Saadoun Sabri Jamil al-Qaisi, a close associate of former President Saddam Hussein. According to Arab media, the sentence was carried out following a fair judicial process.

Reports indicate that al-Qaisi held the rank of Major General during Saddam Hussein’s regime and was found guilty of involvement in crimes against humanity. He was accused of participating in the 1980 killings of prominent Iraqi cleric Muhammad Baqir al-Sadr and his sister Bint al-Huda, along with other allegations of murdering ordinary civilians.

Arab media reported that al-Qaisi fled to Syria following the fall of Saddam’s government in 2003 but was arrested in Erbil, Iraq, in February 2023. During Saddam’s rule, al-Qaisi also served in key positions, including Director of State Security and Director of Security in Basra and Najaf.
