Ankara (Turkiye News) Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte held a meeting in Ankara, where they discussed preparations for the upcoming NATO summit, its agenda, and the regional and global situation in detail.
According to the Turkish Presidency, President Erdoğan said that the unstable situation in the region once again highlights the importance of unity and cooperation among NATO allies.
He expressed hope that the summit to be held in Ankara would lead to important decisions aimed at strengthening the alliance and enhancing its capacity to respond to crises.
President Erdoğan said that Turkey is continuously advancing its defense industry, particularly in air defense systems, and wishes to further expand cooperation with allied countries in this field.
Emphasizing the importance of transatlantic relations, he said that European partners should play a greater role in defense responsibilities, while excluding non-European allies from the defense structure would not be appropriate.
The Turkish President said that following strikes on Iran, Turkey has adopted the path of peace and diplomacy.
Regarding the Russia-Ukraine war, he stated that Turkey is continuing its efforts to resume negotiations and promote high-level dialogue.
Both leaders also conducted a comprehensive review of preparations for the NATO summit in Ankara.
