Istanbul (Turkey Khabar) Speaker of the Turkish Parliament Numan Kurtulmuş has called for the suspension of Israel from the United Nations, stating that presenting a bill for the death penalty for Palestinian prisoners and other measures are violations of international law. Addressing the 152nd General Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union in Istanbul, he said that in the past, the international community had taken action against racial discrimination and in 1974 the membership of South Africa was suspended.
He said that Israel is treating Palestinians in a similar manner, including plans to enforce the death penalty in the West Bank and decisions by military courts. Numan Kurtulmuş questioned, “Is implementing separate laws for Palestinians and Israelis within the same country not open racial discrimination?”
He criticized the United Nations, saying that the institution has failed to stop recent conflicts, particularly the ongoing violence in Gaza, and has now become an organization that operates according to the wishes of powerful countries. He said that after October 7, Israel’s actions have reached the level of genocide; however, the global system appears unable to stop them.
The Turkish Speaker also expressed concern over rising tensions in the region, stating that the war that began with attacks by the United States and Israel on Iran has now spread across the entire region, raising the question of who can stop it. He further said that the global governance system has failed, and although institutions exist, they are no longer practically capable of fulfilling their responsibilities.
