Turkey: Greek Prime Minister Undertakes Key Diplomatic Visit

Turkey (Monitoring Desk): Signs of easing tensions between Turkey and Greece have emerged in recent years, and Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis’ visit to Turkey on Wednesday is seen as a significant step in this process. During the visit, he will attend the sixth meeting of the Turkey-Greece High-Level Cooperation Council as a guest of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.

The meeting will focus on economic, trade, political, and cultural relations between the two countries, including measures to increase bilateral trade volume from approximately $6.7 billion in 2025 to $10 billion. Regional security, geopolitical shifts, and global issues will also be on the agenda.

The leadership of both nations will emphasize diplomacy based on a “positive agenda” and confidence-building measures. Memorandums of understanding are expected to be signed to strengthen bilateral cooperation in trade, economy, culture, and education.

The Turkish government has stated that negotiations based on neighborly relations and international law should be prioritized to address key issues such as rights in Cyprus, the Aegean islands, and the Eastern Mediterranean.
