Turkish Cypriot Government Announces Completion of Security Measures

Lefkoşa (Turkey Khabar) Prime Minister of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, Unal Ustel, has stated that in view of the recent situation in the Beyarmudu area of Famagusta, all necessary measures have been completed to ensure the country’s security. In a written statement, he said that authorities are closely monitoring the situation and that all decisions regarding state sovereignty are being taken with full seriousness and determination.

He said that attempts by the Greek Cypriot administration to allegedly make illegal entries into the area under the pretext of foot-and-mouth disease were thwarted by security forces through increased ground measures. According to Unal Ustel, after negotiations and necessary assurances with the United Nations Peacekeeping Force in Cyprus, security measures in the area have been eased.

He made it clear that authorities will continue to take all possible steps to protect national borders, sovereignty, and citizens, while peace and stability in the region will remain the top priority. Earlier this week, the United Nations Peacekeeping Force claimed that Turkish Cypriot security forces had violated the buffer zone in Chihan Dozu; however, the Turkish Cypriot Foreign Ministry rejected this stance, stating that the area falls within its sovereign boundaries.

On Wednesday morning, security forces prevented a Greek Cypriot veterinary doctor, who had arrived with the United Nations, from entering the area, while Greek Cypriot media claimed that Turkish troops had been deployed in the region. Later, in a statement issued by the United Nations, it was said that the situation in the area is currently calm.
